Airworthiness Directive · Amendment 39-9481 · McDonnell Douglas Model DC-9-10, -20, - 30, -40, and -50 Series Airplanes and C-9 (Military) Series Airplanes
McDonnell Douglas Model DC-9-10, -20, - 30, -40, and -50 Series Airplanes and C-9 (Military) Series Airplanes
All Model DC-9-10, -20, -30, -40, and -50 series airplanes, and C-9 (military) series airplanes; certificated in any category.
This amendment adopts a new airworthiness directive (AD), applicable to all McDonnell Douglas Model DC-9 and C-9 (military) series airplanes, that requires replacement, inspection, and modification of the attach fittings of the main landing gear (MLG). This amendment is prompted by reports of severe structural damage and rupture of the integral fuel tank due to overload of the MLG caused by adverse landing conditions. The actions specified by this AD are intended to minimize the possibility of primary structural damage and rupture of the integral fuel tank due to overload of the MLG; these conditions could lead to fuel spillage and a resultant fire.
The aircraft, engines and makers this AD names, by the model designations in its text. A model listed here may still be outside the AD's serial ranges.
