This AD applies to Pratt & Whitney Division JT8D-1, JT8D-11, JT8D-15, JT8D-15A, JT8D-17, JT8D-17A, JT8D-17AR, JT8D-17R, JT8D-1A, JT8D-7, JT8D-7A, JT8D-7B, JT8D-9, JT8D-9A.
The models as the FAA's AD index lists them. The serial ranges, installed parts and exceptions are in the AD itself: read it at the FAA.
This amendment supersedes an existing airworthiness directive (AD), applicable to Pratt & Whitney JT8D series turbofan engines, that currently requires initial and repetitive inspections of 9th through 12th stage high pressure compressor (HPC) disks at the tierod holes. This amendment eliminates an optional on-wing ultrasonic inspection of the 10th stage high pressure compressor (HPC) disk. This amendment is prompted by a report of an uncontained failure of a 10th stage HPC disk that was previously inspected using the on-wing ultrasonic inspection method. The actions specified by this AD are intended to prevent uncontained fractures of 9th through 12th stage HPC disks and engine failure.
The aircraft, engines and makers this AD names, by the model designations in its text. A model listed here may still be outside the AD's serial ranges.
