Airworthiness Directive · Amendment 39-9052 · The Boeing Company Airplanes
The Boeing Company Airplanes
This AD applies to The Boeing Company DC-9-81 (MD-81), DC-9-82 (MD-82), DC-9-83 (MD-83), DC-9-87 (MD-87), MD-88.
The models as the FAA's AD index lists them. The serial ranges, installed parts and exceptions are in the AD itself: read it at the FAA.
This amendment adopts a new airworthiness directive (AD), applicable to certain McDonnell Douglas Model DC-9-80 series airplanes and Model MD-88 airplanes, that requires modification of the power transfer unit (PTU). This amendment is prompted by reports of fatigue cracks found in the drain port housings of the PTU's on several airplanes. The actions specified by this AD are intended to prevent failure of the PTU housing due to fatigue cracking, which could result in the loss of both hydraulic systems (until the PTU is shut off).\n\n\tThe incorporation by reference of certain publications listed in the regulations is approved by the Director of the Federal Register as of November 28, 1994.
