Airworthiness Directive · Amendment 39-8896 · Teledyne Continental Motors Engines
Teledyne Continental Motors Engines
Superseded. A later AD replaced this one: AD 95-03-14. Comply with the one in force.
This AD applies to Teledyne Continental Motors IO-346-A, IO-346-B, IO-520-C, IO-520-CB, IO-550-C.
The models as the FAA's AD index lists them. The serial ranges, installed parts and exceptions are in the AD itself: read it at the FAA.
This amendment adopts a new airworthiness directive (AD), applicable to certain Teledyne Continental Motors (TCM) IO-346, IO-520, and IO-550 series piston engines, that requires initial and repetitive inspections of the engine mount brackets for cracks, and if found cracked, replacement with improved design engine mount brackets. All engine mount brackets require replacement with improved design engine mount brackets at the next engine removal after the effective date of this AD. This amendment is prompted by reports of cracks in engine mount brackets on engines that have completed at least one overhaul cycle. The actions specified by this AD are intended to prevent engine separation from the aircraft due to cracks in the engine mount brackets.
The aircraft, engines and makers this AD names, by the model designations in its text. A model listed here may still be outside the AD's serial ranges.
