Airworthiness Directive · Amendment 39-19647 · Stabilizers
Airbus SAS Airplanes
This AD applies to Airbus SAS Model A350-941 airplanes, certificated in any category, as identified in European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) AD 2018-0290, dated December 21, 2018 (“EASA AD 2018-0290”).
We are superseding Airworthiness Directive (AD) 2018-25-12, which applied to certain Airbus SAS Model A350-941 airplanes. AD 2018- 25-12 required modifying the vertical tail plane (VTP) tension bolts connection by adding sealant and protective treatment to the head of the connection, at the barrel nut cavities, and in the surrounding area. Since we issued AD 2018-25-12, it was determined that the instructions for certain airplanes are unclear for proper accomplishment of the required modification. This AD, for certain airplanes, requires accomplishing a revised modification and, for certain other airplanes, retains the modification required by AD 2018- 25-12, as specified in an European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) AD, which will be incorporated by reference. We are issuing this AD to address the unsafe condition on these products.
Except as specified in paragraph (h) of this AD: Comply with all required actions and compliance times specified in, and in accordance with, EASA AD 2018-0290.
(1) For purposes of determining compliance with the requirements of this AD: Where EASA AD 2018-0290 refers to its effective date, this AD requires using the effective date of this AD.
(2) Where EASA AD 2018-0290 refers to a compliance time after March 1, 2018, this AD requires using January 18, 2019 (the effective date of AD 2018-25-12).
(3) The “Remarks” section of EASA AD 2018-0290 does not apply to this AD.
The aircraft, engines and makers this AD names, by the model designations in its text. A model listed here may still be outside the AD's serial ranges.
