Airbus Model A330-223, -321, -322, and -323 Series Airplanes Equipped With Pratt & Whitney Model PW4164, PW4168, or PW4168A Engines
Airbus Model A330-223, -321, -322, and -323 series airplanes, certificated in any category, equipped with Pratt & Whitney Model PW4164, PW4168, or PW4168A engines; except those airplanes on which all of the following modifications have been installed: --Modification 46147 (reference Airbus Service Bulletin A330-54- 3016, Revision 01, dated August 7, 2000); --Modification 46948 (reference Airbus Service Bulletin A330-71- 3012, Revision 01, dated August 25, 2000), or Modification 49419 (reference Airbus Service Bulletin A330-71-3015, Revision 01, dated March 19, 2002); --Modification 46383 (reference Airbus Service Bulletin A330-71- 3009, Revision 02, dated August 31, 2001); and --Modification 47341 (reference Airbus Service Bulletin A330-78- 3011, dated December 14, 1999).
This amendment adopts a new airworthiness directive (AD) that is applicable to certain Airbus Model A330-223, -321, -322, and -323 series airplanes equipped with Pratt & Whitney Model PW4164, PW4168, or PW4168A engines. This action requires modification of the primary structure of the engine pylons, and replacement of the thrust reverser locking actuators with new, improved locking actuators. This action is necessary to prevent reduced structural integrity of the primary structure of the engine pylons, and uncommanded deployment of the thrust reversers, which could result in reduced controllability of the airplane. This action is intended to address the identified unsafe condition.
The aircraft, engines and makers this AD names, by the model designations in its text. A model listed here may still be outside the AD's serial ranges.
