# Post an announcement

> Owners and admins post a school notice from Operations → Announcements. Members see it on Home until they tap Got it, then find it again on the announcements page.

Source: https://www.aerscheduler.com/docs/getting-started/post-an-announcement
Section: Getting started. For: Owners, Admins, Instructors, Students, Renters.

`Operations → Announcements → New announcement` (web console). Enter a title and a
message, optionally set an expiry, choose who it is for (everyone, some roles, or some people
groups), and post. Members see it on Home until they tap Got it.
After that it stays on the announcements page. Those with the iOS or Android app can get a
push.

**Who can do this:** Owners, Admins

Use this for anything the organization needs to know: a runway closure, a schedule change, a
new checklist, or a reminder about paperwork. For news only some people need, address it to
their role or their people group.

## Post one

1. **Open Operations → Announcements**

Owners and admins see a **New announcement** button. Everybody else can still
   read the board.

2. **Enter a title and a message**

Title is required and capped at 60 characters. Message is optional, up to 600 characters.

3. **Set an expiry if you want one**

Leave Expires as Never to keep the notice until you delete it. Expired notices leave the
   live board.

4. **Choose who it is for**

**Who it's for** starts on Everyone. Pick roles (Students, Instructors, Renters,
Dispatchers, Technicians) and people groups from Settings → Groups to narrow it. A person sees
the notice if they hold any role or are in any group you picked. Owners and admins always see
every notice. In the app, it is the **Who it's for** row on the Create sheet.

5. **Click Post announcement**

The notice appears on the board immediately, tagged with the roles and groups it is for.
The people it is for get an alert if they have push enabled and the iOS or Android app.
Nobody else sees it: not on Home, not on the board, not in search.

## Hide it from Home

**Who can do this:** Everyone

Members tap **Got it** on a notice on Home, in the console or the mobile app. That hides it
from Home for them only. It stays on Operations → Announcements (and under Announcements
in the app) until an admin deletes it or it expires.

> **Note:** Got it is not a delete. Other people still see the notice on Home until they mark it
> themselves. If an admin never takes the notice down, this is how it leaves Home.

## Edit or delete

Open the menu on a notice and choose Edit or Delete. Edit can also change who it is for.
Deleting removes it for everyone.

## Common questions

**How do I hide an announcement from Home?**

Tap Got it on the notice. It leaves Home for you only. The school still has it on Operations → Announcements, and in the app under Announcements, until an admin deletes it or it expires.

**Does Got it delete the announcement for everyone?**

No. Got it is only for you. Other members still see it on Home until they mark it themselves. Deleting from the board removes it for the whole school.
